As the family grew and Carl’s commissions for monumental works demanded more and more room, Carl and Karin enlarged Lilla Hyttnäs. During the years 1890-1912 the house underwent enormous changes with four extensions and several conversions. Unfortunately none of the plans has survived.
When the artist couple designed the different extensions and outhouses they started from traditional Swedish architecture, freely mixing in other styles and artistic expressions. Each extension had its own distinct façade and the result is a highly original and personal house, which exudes creativity and individuality - a house that it is almost impossible not to like.
