World war on the cushion and stripes on the children. It was Karin who did it. Wove the cloth, embroidered the tea towels and tablecloths, sewed the clothes, designed the furniture. Ventured out with red, green, yellow and black. What Karin did with needle, thread and colour was transformed into fine art with brush and palette by her husband Carl. He became world famous while Karin stood at his side.
That isn’t the way women do things today. Discover Karin together with young fashion and textile design students from the Swedish School of Textiles at the University of Borås, who will be interpreting and misinterpreting one of the greatest interior decorators of our time this summer.
Welcome to the exhibition Style Icon: Karin 150 Years in our art gallery, Kvarnen, where Karin’s life and artistry are given shape by designer Wanja Djanaieff. We have opened the linen cupboards and chests at Lilla Hyttnäs and now reveal their bold and colourful contents. We promise you sharp arrows, delightful tassels and the odd wilful garland and basket. Join us for a full-length portrait of one of Sweden’s greatest textile designers.
Sundborn will be decked out in new and exciting ways so that nobody will be able to overlook the fact that we are celebrating Karin in our village. We promise!
